About the Opportunity

Welcome to the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture`s Online Application system for the Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) grant.

The purpose of the MGE strategy is to make strategic investments to optimize the economic benefit of the arts, culture and heritage sector in South Africa. By improving investment in key areas of the creative economy. The strategy considers the arts, culture and heritage sector as the new gold which has the potential to grow audiences, increase economic growth and create jobs in South Africa.

An Open call for proposals is administered annually, and it focuses only on three (3) of the MGE strategy?s priority work streams, each dealing with flexible financing provided through direct grant funding to beneficiaries, namely:

Cultural Events
Touring Ventures
Public Art

Individual artists and organisations participating in the arts and culture disciplines are invited to submit their proposals for project funding.

Projects proposed for funding should be of local, provincial and national significance considering creation of new productions and programmes, development, promotion, job creation, capacity building and facilitation of access to the arts. The funding is once off for 2021/22 financial year. Furthermore, applications that promote social cohesion and nation building and have a strong community base conceived in collaboration with others working in similar fields will be preferable.

Proposed projects must demonstrate localization; have impact and value for the communities they operate in. This open call also encourages arts organisations and individuals that support and promote the participation and involvement of women, youth and people living with disabilities, particularly in historically disadvantaged areas.
